Science journalists, media students, and communications professionals with limited financial backing now have a chance to attend one of the biggest events in science journalism — fully funded. The WCSJ2027 Travel Fellowship covers flights, visa costs, accommodation, and conference registration for selected applicants attending the World Conference of Science Journalists 2027 in London.
The fellowship is specifically designed to widen access for professionals who might otherwise be unable to afford attending, with reviewers weighing financial need alongside professional merit during selection. There is no cost to apply.
About the Program
The World Conference of Science Journalists 2027 (WCSJ2027) will run from 6–9 September 2027 at Central Hall, Westminster, London. It brings together science journalists, researchers, and communicators from around the world. The associated Travel Fellowship exists to make attendance possible for applicants who face genuine financial barriers, with an emphasis on building a diverse, globally representative cohort.
Applications go through two stages: a professional review assessing the applicant's work, motivation, and potential contribution to the conference, followed by an administrative and eligibility check that also factors in financial need and overall cohort balance.
What the Fellowship Covers
- Return travel to London by air, rail, coach, or bus
- UK visa application fees
- Limited local transportation during the conference
- Up to 6 nights of accommodation
- Full conference registration
- Refreshments and lunches during the conference
Note: per diem/daily allowance is not included.
