MEXT Scholarship 2027 at Institute of Science Tokyo (Formerly Tokyo Institute of Technology) – Fully Funded

Worth knowing before you apply: Tokyo Institute of Technology no longer exists as a separate institution. On 1 October 2024, it merged with Tokyo Medical and Dental University to form the Institute of Science Tokyo (branded "Science Tokyo"). Any application for 2027 entry into the university's science and engineering programmes now goes through Science Tokyo, not the old Tokyo Tech name — so if you're researching this opportunity elsewhere and see "Tokyo Institute of Technology" scholarship listings, treat that as referring to the same institution under its new name.

That said, the opportunity itself is real and strong: a Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship, fully funded, covering Master's, PhD, and combined Master's-to-PhD study, open to applicants of any nationality with diplomatic relations with Japan.

About Science Tokyo

Science Tokyo brings together the former Tokyo Institute of Technology's strength in science and engineering with Tokyo Medical and Dental University's medical and dental expertise, creating one of Japan's leading research institutions. For students applying to science and engineering fields (the focus of this scholarship), the academic offering and reputation carried over directly from Tokyo Tech, which was long regarded as one of Japan's top technical universities.
